This week, Giant-supported athlete Brendan “Trekky” Johnston rolls out from Perth to take on one of Australia’s toughest endurance challenges, attempting to set a new Fastest Known Time (FKT) between Perth and Sydney.
Spanning more than 4,000 kilometres, the route demands consecutive ultra-long days on the bike, minimal sleep, and relentless focus. The current FKT benchmark stands at 6 days, 10 hours and 58 minutes, and Brendan will be pushing his physical and mental limits as he rides across the country.
The attempt carries deep personal meaning. At 17, Brendan was diagnosed with cancer. While he recovered physically, the experience left a lasting impact on his mental health, including PTSD. Cycling became a way for him to regain control, purpose, and direction. This FKT attempt is an extension of that journey, transforming pain into purpose.
Brendan is using the ride to raise funds and awareness for Tour de Cure, an Australian charity supporting cancer research and prevention programs nationwide. Supporters can follow the ride in real time and contribute to the cause as every kilometre unfolds.
For the attempt, Brendan will ride a custom-built Giant Trinity Advanced SL, equipped with sponsor-supported components including CADEX Aero WheelSystems, and wearing Giant helmets, including the Rivet aero TT helmet, designed for sustained speed and efficiency over long distances.
